SLO Overdose Awareness Day

August 31, 2024

SLO Overdose Awareness Day is a FREE event held each year on, or near, August 31st at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo. This annual event for learning and remembrance is for anyone affected by overdose or substance use and for those who wish to learn more about the issue.  Our 2024 event is on 8/31 from 2 to 4 pm.

Resource Fair

We host a resource fair with over a dozen local agencies participating. Several of these agencies provide free trainings in using naloxone (brand name Narcan), the overdose reversal drug, and offer it free to participants.

Create A Memorial For Your Loved One

We create opportunities for you to remember your loved ones with a lawn flag memorial, rock painting, and with a photo display.

Candle-Lighting Ceremony

We close the evening with a ceremony presented by Hospice of SLO County with the Threshold Singers, poetry, and a candle-lighting ceremony to remember and honor loved ones lost to overdose and those affected by it.
